Jenn Reese had a home life that wasn't the best so she used books as an escape (boy does that sound familiar). She told us during her visit that the books she read as an adolescent saved her life and she wanted to repay that gift by writing books for a similar age group. But...
She didn't start writing until her mid twenties and then had to be encouraged to finish what she was working on. But finish she did! She created a magical world where mermaids and fantastic creatures co-exist. A story of courage and friendship, of doing the right thing even though it is difficult, and taking action to make a difference. Check it out.... |

Middle school was a particularly difficult time for our visiting author, Jennifer Lunquist but it was good source material for a book! As she explained, a lot of novels begin with something that happens to you or someone you know. We were very fortunate to host her April 6th. She was very engaging and answered lots of questions from our students.
Some of our students said they were looking forward to other books she may write. As am I!! |
On Thursday, February 13th, Dean Pitchford, visited Carp Middle school students. He had lunch with 6th graders in the library and shared his beginnings as a songwriter, actor, director, screenwriter and last, but not least, as an author. He also talked to about 120 7th graders about his 3 books, read from one of them and shared a video that highlighted his songs and work in movies and TV. It was a wonderful visit.
I highly recommend his books. They are very entertaining and I have to say Nickel Bay Nick is one of my all time favorites. I wonder if it's because I can really relate to Sam, the rebellious main character. But I also have to admit I loved "The Big One-Oh" and "Captain Nobody" as well. |
