Sometimes it is difficult to figure out what to read next. It may be because there are so many choices and you may feel overwhelmed at the thought of sifting through all that is available. Or maybe you just grab the first thing you see because the teacher is requiring you to have one.
Book speed dating helped a group of students develop a list of books to read. They came in at lunch, grabbed a score sheet and took a seat at a table that had a pile of high interest books selected by me and some conversation hearts. These titles were an eclectic collection that reflected different interests and titles that our students checked out most frequently but also some excellent books that were not checked out regularly but should be. The students who participated had a good time, ended up with a list of what to read next, and some goodies at the end. Even a couple of boys who were coaxed into joining in admitted they were glad they stayed.
