Katrina, Kate, and Julia had a fun time at the meet on Tuesday, April 26th. They battle, they met author Bruce Hale who wrote "Playing with Fire" from the School of Spies series and the much loved Chet Gecko books that we have in our library.

We had lots of students sharing their pocket poems and some were brave enough to do it on stage in front of their peers. Mr. Merritt shared two poems one of which was written by a distant relative. It was a limerick called "The Pelican" and written by Dixon Lanier Merritt (born in 1879 and died in 1972 at age 92). Look it up! Next week I will post some videos of our students sharing their poetry. Our hallways were quite festive looking with our pocket poems hung on the walls and our reading chains draping along the top. We met our goal of 25,000 AR points (we've got over 26,000) which means that Mr. Merritt will be made into a human ice cream sundae June 3rd.
6th Graders Battle!!!Julia W., Kate C., and Katrina C. represented CMS at the annual CUSD Battle of the Books held at Aliso this year. They, along with 50 or so 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders had a lively competition. Kate was a member of the winning team. Now they are getting ready for the country battle to be held on the 28th.
