I am stunned and more than a little guilty that I have not posted anything since last June. It's not that things have not been happening here at CMS. They most certainly have! Just the other day we had chalk artist Sharyn Chan practicing her craft on our stage. We wanted the students to get a taste of what chalk art was about. She worked all day and created a magnificent red hawk. Friday our students will be creating their own chalk art during activity day. I'll post some of their work. So cool!
Every April, on Poem in Your Pocket Day, people celebrate by selecting a poem, carrying it with them, and sharing it with others throughout the day at schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces, and on Twitter using the hashtag #pocketpoem.
Poem in Your Pocket Day was stated in 2002 in New York City as part of the city’s National Poetry Month celebration. Then in 2008, the Academy of American Poets made the initiative national, encouraging individuals across the country to join in. We've been participating for the last 3 years and each year more students get involved.
We'll be sharing our pocket poems on Thursday for Poem in Your Pocket day. We'll also have a poetry slam on the stage at lunch. Students can recite their pocket poem or slam an original. In the library there will be a poetry (of course) scavenger hunt.
