Here's the thing about libraries....they are not just about books any more. Of course books are first and foremost but the purveyors of books (librarians) are the greatest and cheapest treasures you will find. Yep, I said it! I'm a treasure.
I am always on the look out for new books or series of books that will engage our students. I am there for them when they need help finding that just right book, or when they need research help whether it's on the computer or from all the wonderful nonfiction books we have. I am there for them when they want to share a new book that they are excited about. I want every student who visits our library to learn to love books. I am there to help them.
But that's not all I do. I am also a technology troubleshooter (with help from our district technology gurus). I manage our lab calendars, I edit our daily bulletin, I apply for grants to help me purchase new materials, I manage our AR points program, I am a test proctor, I coordinate and collaborate with teachers...I could go on but you get the idea. One thing I do not do is wear my hair in a bun or say "SHHHHHHH" all the time. Not gonna do it. What I am is always welcoming, always ready to help, and always ready to recommend a great book.
Needless to say I absolutely love what I do and, after 18 years on the job, I still love it and I suspect I always will.
